Shakespeare comes to York this summer!

25 June – 2 September 2018
Shakespeare’s Rose Theatre is a dramatic playhouse setting beside the iconic 13th century Clifford’s Tower in the heart of the historic city of York.

Four of William Shakespeare’s greatest plays will be performed in repertory over the 10 week season: Macbeth, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Romeo and Juliet, and Richard III.

Set in a vibrant Shakespearean Village beside Clifford’s Tower in York, Shakespeare’s Rose Theatre promises a thrilling and unique theatrical experience in 2018! The pop-up theatre will combine state-of-the-art scaffolding technology with the historic 13-sided design of a traditional Elizabethan theatre, with three covered tiers of seating and an open courtyard.

York Theatre Royal’s Artistic Director Damian Cruden will bring his Olivier Award-winning flair to directing Macbeth and A Midsummer Night’s Dream, while fellow Olivier Award winner Lindsay Posner from the West End will direct Romeo and Juliet and Richard III.
